There doesn't seem to be any time for breathing much less thinking and writing and processing. Or packing.
There has been time for piling baby things in storage bins around the living room, dining room, foyer and anywhere else I can squeeze a box or a bag. But there has been little to no actual packing.
Did I mention that we leave in TWO DAYS to drive north? Yup we leave in about 36 hours for about a month.
The past week flew by in a blur. Ms FoodNetwork came for a nice long visit (and it was nice and long) but there's just so much to do! We had our adoption group meeting and Tall Girl had a super fun birthday party. Note to self: don't get all overly crafty with way too many Muno projects next year at birthday party season time.
Last week was also a lot of time on the phone talking to lawyers. I guess you could say we're all lawyered up. We found a great seeming guy for us in our neighbor to the north and we found a good seeming gal for Sydney. This time around it will be an independent adoption due to various factors at play in that state. There was also a flurry of activity regarding our homestudy redo to make sure it passed snuff up there. We have to get our homestudy certified by an agency in that state and it's a bit of a pain.
We have, however, found most excellent digs for the Beaver State vacation (as we're now calling it around here). We've rented a lovely house on a private lake with several bedrooms, a pool table, views all around and a gourmet kitchen. Can I help it that it's nearly as cheap as a motel? No I don't think that I can.
Tonight a few folks from our infertility support group came over to toast us and send us off. I can't believe we've known these folks for 7 years but we have! They brought pizza, salad, wine and lots of love. It was a great way to refocus on what's going to be happening very soon.
Just as they were getting ready to leave, Sydney called. We hadn't had much chance to talk to her recently and it was great to reconnect. She's been thinking about the names we sent her a couple of weeks ago. There's one that bubbled to the top for her. She found a list she'd made for herself when she first found out the gender and this one was on it. It's a family name on my side as well. And it's the first name that Ms FoodNetwork blurted out when I asked her what boy names she liked. It's also one that one of you mentioned in a comment.
BTW y'all have excellent taste in names (or just know enough to play along with my naming rules). I liked all the names mentioned here or sent to me via email (I'm looking at you KS). One was even my top choice for a boy name for 10 years. It would have been awesome and tied all 4 families together. There was one huge problem with that name: it just happens to be the last name of the biodad (who as you might guess, is not someone that Sydney is overly fond of at the moment for various reasons). What are the chances of that? This is one of the reasons open adoption can be great. Imagine the problems/anxiety if we didn't know that and named the baby something that was that unsettling to his firstmom?
Anyway. As of a couple of hours ago, we have a name. Technically I suppose we have 4 names but we already had the 2 middle names and last name picked.
We have a name and we have tiny baby clothes, a car seat, some diapers, bottles and other assorted stuff all waiting to get loaded in a car. It still seems incredibly surreal but in a few hours we'll be heading north!

In incredibly heartwrenching and sad news, one of our own is hurting more than I can even imagine. Boulder's husband died. There just are no words.
I hope you have a great trip. And that place you're staying sounds fabulous.
