I think I'm finally recovered enough from my trip to the Emerald City to write a little recap.
I headed up last week to help Initial Girl and Sandal boy tie the proverbial knot. I was truly honored when IG asked me to be the matron of honor. I did, however, call my sister and apologize profusely for bestowing that title upon her at my wedding.*
I arrived happily in said Emerald City and immediately got a rental car upgrade. They gave me an SUV. Woo hoo!**
I headed straight to Inital Girl and Sandal Boy's house where we got straight to work. There were many tasks left to do (unpacking, sewing the wedding dress, making programs and of course getting the all important mani-pedi). We did lots of things and had tons of fun.
Thursday even we partook in the ritual otherwise known as the bachelorette party. Our form of debauchery was second to none: high tea followed by drinking games played to reality tv. The Apprentice: Martha version totally came through for us. It was simply perfect! We watched and drank until the wee hours.
On Friday I took a little infertility break. I knew I needed it for my sanity. I've found that if I can hang out with some of my own kind, even if it's just for a little while, I can reign in the cynicism and sarcasm. And I really didn't want to be known as the bitter matron. Oh, no.
So I headed over to Mama Rose's house first. I 'knew' her from wedding land but we'd never met it person. She was AWESOME! I got to hold one of her twins for most of the afternoon. I was forced to return her. I hoped Mama Rose was too tired to notice and I could sneak out with her little flower but that just wasn't to be. Mama Rose has quite the story of how her twinkies came to be and it just gave me so much hope.
Then the fabulous Paisley One came over and it was an infertile gal's party-0-rama. Paisley had just aced the all important clomid test and we celebrated along with her.
Do you think it could get any better? Well, I totally hit the trifecta. I had the most amazing dinner with the most amazing Emily/Scrambled Eggs. I swear we could have talked all night. She asked me during dinner if I'd had a picture of her in my head.*** I didn't have a good answer at the time but realized later that what I'd pictured in my mind was big, soulful eyes and a huge heart. She's got both and much more. It was just so easy talking to her about everything. It's funny because our men are in very similar fields and I think they both felt left out. I'm hoping we can have another get together soon.
I hated to say good-night to Emily but the mister was waiting at the airport. Luckily his plane was late so I wasn't horribly late. He'd had airport food for dinner so I don't think he would have been too understanding of my gourmet vegetarian dinner. Oh my g-d it was fantastic!
Saturday was Wedding Day and it was a most lovely wedding. The house was gorgeous. The bride was gorgeous. The groom wore sandals (you saw that coming, right?) There were strands of blue and brown paper cranes, vessels of water and candles everywhere. They said their vows in front of the fireplace. Everyone cried. It was short, sweet and very touching.
We got the traditional footwear shot afterwards:the groom's fancy sandals, the best man's hideous sandals, the bride's perfectly pedicured bare foot, and the matron's kick-ass pointy sequined mules she got on an awesome sale.
Afterwards there was dinner out then back in for cake and toasts. The toasted matron gave a well received toast that relied heavily on feminist quotes and bridge metaphors (bridge the card game, since that's how Initial Girl and Sandal Boy met. at the matron's house).
Since the newlyweds could not be talked into a honeymoon, or even a honeymoon suite, the wedding party had to engage in much trickery to get the bedroom decorated appropriately. There were chocolates, champagne, candles and of course rose petals spread in a heart shape on the bed. The last was due to that lovable Mr. Millie who can be very romantic.
The weekend wound down. There was another party the following day with haikus and trivia. I'm still hoping to get notified that I was a prize winner but I think it's unlikely at this point.
We returned home tired and happy. It felt so very good to be back home. It was great to see such happiness and recapture just a bit of that ourselves. It didn't hurt at all that Initial Girl and Sandal Boy stole the best part of our wedding:
I marry you with this ring,
with my heart,
with my body, and
with all the syllables of my soul.
Doesn't that sound like the beginning of happily ever after? We wish a very happy ever after to Initial Girl and Sandal Boy.
*My sis, like all good matrons, didn't give a hoot about the wording. I didn't either it just seemed old and well, matronly. Of course my sis was probably the first matron to have purple hair and tatoos.
**Please don't flame me for this. It was actually a crappy American SUV and I didn't drive it much but we did need to haul a lot of stuff for the wedding.
***She pictured me a blond with a bob and I had to burst her bubble. I will admit to coloring my hair red for many years in an effort to be the crazy red-head and no longer date them (but that's another whole series of stories). Unfortunately my hair is brown. Kind of longish right now. Not at all like my fab namesake's.
You are so cool (and sweet). You know cheesy song from My Fair Lady...I could have danced all night? Well, that's how I felt talking to you :) Soon, we'll do it again soon I hope.

So jealous of your blogger-meetup. That Emily-everyone speaks so well of her!
